About us

Ananda Therapy is a Los Angeles-based psychotherapy practice serving California clients across the lifespan, primarily by telehealth, with in-person options for full-fee clients at offices across California. Our clinical focus is relational, with deep work in couples therapy, trauma, and attachment, including EMDR, attachment-based, psychodynamic, and humanistic approaches. We carry specialty caseloads in anxiety and depression, parenting, and a growing kids and teens practice. We are clinician-led, growth-minded, and intentionally small enough that you will know everyone on the team by name.

We are hiring an AMFT to join our team and grow with us. This is a W2 employee role (no 1099). You can live anywhere in California and work remotely, seeing clients via telehealth, with the option to see full-fee clients in person at any of our California office locations near where you live. We provide the supervision, the EHR, centralized billing, and the trauma-informed clinical community. You bring at least four clients from your traineeship to start, do great therapy, and own your own outreach as you build your caseload under the Ananda Therapy umbrella.

What you will do

  • Bring at least 4 clients from your traineeship to start. Some flexibility case-by-case for the right candidate.
  • Build and maintain a caseload toward 20 to 25 weekly clients via telehealth (full-time target), through your own marketing and outreach.
  • See a mix of adults, couples, teens, kids, parents, and families, with weighting toward your strengths over time.
  • Use relational, trauma-, and attachment-informed modalities. EMDR training is preferred but not required.
  • Optionally see full-fee clients in person at one of our California office locations near where you live, once you and the practice agree the fit makes sense.
  • Maintain your own Psychology Today profile, directory presence, and professional network under the Ananda Therapy brand.
  • Document promptly inside our EHR (SimplePractice, which we provide and pay for).
  • Attend weekly individual supervision toward your BBS hours.
  • Attend weekly group supervision on Mondays at 1:00 PM Pacific, which often includes EMDR-informed case discussion. If Mondays at 1 do not work for your schedule, individual or triadic supervision alternatives may be available.
  • In-person group supervision may be added if there is considerable team interest, to support community building.
  • Participate in occasional team meetings, case consults, and CEU trainings.

Compensation

We are going to be specific because we know that matters.

Your clinical pay is a tiered fee split that grows with your active caseload. The first number is your share; the second is the practice share. This is designed as an incentive: the more clients you carry, the more of each session fee comes home with you.

0 to 10 active clients: 40 / 60 split (you keep 40% of every collected session fee).

11 to 20 active clients: 50 / 50 split (you keep 50%).

21 or more active clients: 60 / 40 split (you keep 60%).

You are paid your tier share of the session fee whether the client pays cash, uses insurance, or pays a late-cancel or no-show fee that we collect. Tier is set monthly based on your trailing four-week active caseload, so a single light week will not knock you down.

  • $25 per non-clinical hour for documentation time beyond what is reasonable, supervision, group consultation, paid intake calls with prospective clients, team meetings, and any CEU you attend on our calendar.

  • W2 employee status. We withhold taxes, carry workers compensation, and pay the employer share of payroll taxes, exactly as the California Board of Behavioral Sciences requires for AMFT supervised hours.

  • Honest ramp: expect the first three to six months to sit in the 40 / 60 tier as you grow from your starting clients into a full caseload through your own marketing. We expect clinicians who lean into outreach to reach the 50 / 50 tier within a few months and the 60 / 40 tier once they are holding a full schedule.

Settling-in period (first 90 days)

Your first 90 days with us are a mutual settling-in period, a chance for both of us to get a feel for the fit. Most clinicians find that getting to around 8 active clients in this window is a sustainable starting place, and we will support you in building toward that with marketing guidance, occasional warm referrals where we can, and honest conversations along the way.

We will check in together at 30, 60, and 90 days, less as a performance review and more to ask: how is the work feeling, what support would help, and what is going well. We know caseload-building takes time, and we are committed to growing this with you. That said, if by 90 days the fit is not working for either of us, we will have an open conversation about it.

During this settling-in window, the 60/40 tier benefits begin accruing once we are past the first 90 days and you have reached 21 or more active clients.

What we provide

Some benefits are included from day one. Others kick in once you reach our top tier (21 or more active clients).

Included from day one

  • W2 employee status with workers compensation, unemployment eligibility, and the employer share of payroll taxes (exactly as the BBS requires for AMFT supervised hours).
  • Paid sick leave per California Healthy Workplaces Act (40 hours / 5 days minimum).
  • CalSavers retirement plan enrollment (state-administered; gives you tax-advantaged retirement savings via payroll deduction).
  • Free weekly individual supervision toward your BBS hours, with a California-licensed LMFT.
  • Free weekly group supervision (Mondays at 1:00 PM Pacific), with flexibility for individual or triadic alternatives if Mondays do not work. Together these save you $250 to $400 per month vs. paying for outside supervision.
  • Free in-house case consultation and clinical mentorship, including EMDR-informed case discussion.
  • Free use of SimplePractice EHR, video, and scheduling.
  • Centralized billing infrastructure so you can focus on the clinical work.
  • Flexible self-set schedule within client demand.
  • Monthly team case consultation. Small enough team that you are not a number, big enough that you are not alone.
  • A clear path to LMFT and to a senior associate role at the practice.

Added at the 60 / 40 tier (21 or more active clients)

  • Contribution toward your health insurance via a Qualified Small Employer HRA (QSEHRA), with group plans considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Annual CEU library subscription (PESI, NICABM, or GoodTherapy CE), paid by the practice.
  • Mental health days, your birthday off, and a no-Friday-afternoons-in-summer policy honored explicitly (above the California sick leave minimum).
  • Personal therapy referrals through our network when you are ready to do your own work (we think it matters).
  • Co-branded marketing collateral and warm introductions through the founder referral network.

What we are looking for

  • Registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an AMFT in good standing.
  • Master degree in MFT, Counseling Psychology, or related from an accredited program.
  • At least 4 clients you can bring with you from your traineeship to anchor your starting caseload. Some flexibility case-by-case for an exceptional fit.
  • A willingness to market yourself. You will own your own Psychology Today profile, directory presence, networking, and referral building under the Ananda Therapy umbrella. We provide brand guidance and clinical legitimacy; you provide the outreach.
  • At least some clinical experience; practicum and internship count. We are not requiring a minimum hours count; we are looking for clinical judgment and fit.
  • Genuine interest in relational, trauma, and attachment work, including depth and psychodynamic approaches. EMDR-trained is a plus; EMDR-curious is enough.
  • Comfortable working with at least one of: couples, kids and teens, parents, or adults with attachment trauma. Experience with children is a meaningful plus.
  • Strong written communication and timely documentation (within 48 hours of session).
  • Reliable, private home telehealth setup in California; quiet space; secure internet; a good headset.
  • Self-aware, low-drama, and curious about your own development as a clinician.

Nice to have

  • EMDR Basic Training already completed.
  • Couples therapy training (Gottman, EFT, PACT, IFIO, or similar).
  • Play therapy training or experience with kids 6 to 12.
  • Experience with parent guidance or parent coaching frameworks.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin especially).
  • Personal therapy experience. We think it matters and we will gently say so.

Schedule

Full-time target is 20 to 25 client hours per week plus 3 to 5 paid non-clinical hours. Part-time (10 to 15 client hours per week) is welcome and supported, especially for AMFTs who are also accruing hours in another setting. You set your own weekly schedule within client demand, and we will be honest about which time blocks tend to have the most referral pressure (evenings and Saturday mornings).

Most of your work will be telehealth. You can live anywhere in California. Once you are established and a fit for the practice rhythm, you may also see full-fee clients in person at any of our California office locations near where you live. We will work the details out together.

How to apply

Send the following to associates@anandatherapygroup.com:

  • A short cover note (one or two paragraphs) about what drew you to trauma and attachment work.
  • Your resume or CV.
  • Your BBS registration number and the date you registered.
  • A brief note on the clients you can bring from your traineeship: number, populations, modality, and no identifying details.
  • Two professional references (a supervisor and one other). We will not contact them without telling you first.

We aim to respond to most applicants within one to two weeks. Our process: 30-minute screening call, 60-minute clinical conversation with the practice owner, brief case-formulation exercise, and an offer. The whole process typically takes two to three weeks.

A note on values

We are a small, trauma-informed practice and we try to treat our clinicians the way we hope they treat clients: with respect for their time, honesty about expectations, and a real investment in their growth. If that sounds like a fit, we would love to hear from you.
